Property Location

The cottage is in the heart of this ancient, peaceful Cathar village which is surrounded by vineyards, country side and beautiful views,just minutes from the Medieval City of Carcassonne. The village itself has a 13th Century Chateau and Church. There is also a wonderful restaurant in the village that produces its own wonderful wine. You can enjoy a little wine tasting and learn which grapes they use, how they're harvested etc. or you can stay and treat yourselves to a lovely meal. The village also has 2 bakers, a butcher, small supermarket, newsagents and another bar with pool table and games.

Description of Property

You walk straight into a taste of the 13th Century when staying in Cathar Cottage. The ground floor has a large kitchen, dining room that has beautifully built stone walls and large oak beams. Through the remains of a stone arch you will find a spacious shower room and separate toilet. Up the old stairs to the lounge, with oak beams and through into the large, bright double bedroom. From the lounge you go out into a small, private terrace with table, chairs and bbq. There is a 2nd toilet on this floor. Behind a large very old oak door you will venture up the stairs (steep but safe) to a beautiful 2nd bedroom that has twin beds. The cottage is very light and spacious and full of history. The kitchen is fully fitted with oven, hob, washing machine and dryer, iron and board, many books, bedlinen and towels.

Places of Interest

You are only minutes from the City of Carcassonne, a World Heritage Site which is a real joy to wonder around and get lost in its many little cobbled streets. There is the famous Canal du Midi, another World Heritage Site, where you can take a boat trip and see the wild life. This whole area is full of Medieval villages just waiting to be explored, all with their own piece of magic. The miles of sandy beaches at Narbonne are within an hours drive where you can sunbathe and swim and then enjoy the taste of fresh fish, fresh wine and fresh air. On the other side of Carcassonne you will find the Lac de la Cavayere. There are 3 beaches, pedalos, crazy golf, a snack bar/ice-creams. You can walk around the lake and enjoy watching the butterflies, frogs, fish, lizards etc. During the winter you can be on the slopes of the Pyrenees within 2 hours enjoying wonderful snow without millions of people. From swimming to rapids to horse riding to skiing to fishing to sight seeing to wine tasting to market visiting to walking to swimming to cycling it\\\\\\\'s all available here and much, much more. Carcassonne and it's surrounding area is brimming over with history and stunning historical sites. There are many ancient Abbeys and Chateaux that are waiting with open doors to let you experience just a little of Cathar life. You are also in the heart of wine country. With some truly fantastic wines you will be surprised by the quality and richness you will taste. You can also visit Limoux which is the home of the original sparkling wine, many, many years before Champagne came along. You can visit the 'wine caves' and learn how the bubbles are and the great difference between the original method and the newer champagne method. Also there is the town of Castelnaudary which is where the famous Cassoulet was born. If you love food you must indulge in a Cassoulet. It'll blow your socks off. The City of Carcassonne is a must that needs to be experienced day and night, with musicians playing in the streets and restaurants, the wine flowing and the aromas floating in the breeze you might even think that you were in the south of France!!!!! Come and enjoy a secret piece of history.
