Property Location

La Fenice is in a stunning position looking out from the old bastion of Montjustin, a pretty hilltop hamlet with panoramic views over the beautiful Luberon countryside. The fascinating market towns of Apt and Forcalquier are just twenty minutes away; Avignon and Aix en Provence an hour’s drive; Marseille Airport and the Mediterranean a further quarter of an hour. The villa and the grounds are at the top of the village (the lane stops just past our back door) and constitute the old castle keep. There is a superb lookout point (on clear days you can see the Alps) from one of the original towers.

Description of Property

The villa includes three double bedrooms (one with bathroom and toilet en suite), a second fully equipped bathroom, two sitting rooms and vaulted kitchen and dinning room. There is ample living space with a generous upstairs lounge, featuring a Provencal fireplace and picture windows overlooking the valley below, opening into one of the two spacious terraces with wonderful views (in particular the sunset!). A double bedroom reached via the lounge has an en suite bathroom with a WC. An additional WC is also on this floor. On the ground floor there is an additional sitting or play area. A twin bedroom is next to the sitting area. A third bedroom (twin) is on the first floor with a private terrace overlooking the pool and access to the main terrace. A bathroom with a WC serves these three rooms, thus completing a self-contained unit. The kitchen, sited into one of the two interconnecting stone vaults (beautifully cool in summer) has lots of character. It features directional spotlighting, fitted cupboards, fridge, dishwasher, breakfast bar, indoor barbecue, oven, microwave, gas and electric rings, toaster and coffee maker. Behind the kitchen there is a huge utility room with sink, washing machine and pool equipment – everything a family needs for a comfortable holiday. Outside there is an 8 x 4m landscaped, floodlit pool with night blanket, surrounding terraces and plentiful garden furniture including a mobile barbecue - perfect for taking advantage of the many beautiful sunny days enjoyed in the area. In addition, there are two spacious terraces at first floor level, one facing north, and one facing south. The villa also includes telephone and electrical heating with individual heaters in the rooms. For your leisure you'll find TV, video, satellite TV, radio, stereo system, CD player and books. To stay in touch with the world you will also find a high-speed ADSL connection. Sorry, you need to bring your own laptop - the ADSL installation is fast and painless.

Places of Interest

La Fenice is a wonderful place to do nothing but it’s equally a superb base for exploring the Gorges du Verdon, the Fontaine de Vaucluse, the Camargue and the Roman towns of Provence – all within easy reach for a day trip. For the more active holiday goers, the beautiful Luberon golf course is 15 km away, Cereste has excellent tennis courts, and horse riding is minutes away in the valley. Finally, this is a wonderful walking country. Whether you want to take a short stroll to the ruins of the 16th century church, a leisurely walk to the village cemetery or longer walks through the park, they all start at your doorstep. Superb walks can be taken particularly via the medieval path that links Manosque to Apt (more widely known as the GR4) and which traverses Montjustin.
