Property Location

Within sight of the medieval city of Carcassone thanks to an elevated position on a hilly plateau, there are spectacular views to the west over vineyards to the city, and to the north it is overlooked by the black mountains (Montagne Noire). The larger village of Trebes is just 5 mins away with local cafés, restaurants and shops. It is also a main port of call for the famous Canal du Midi which is now a tourist attraction for walking, cycling, and boat trips.

Description of Property

Places of Interest

This is the heart of the famous wine-producing area of Minervois and Corbières. The countryside is dotted with ‘caves’ inviting passers-by to stop and taste the local wine. A drive through the countryside will also inevitably lead you along some of the Route du Pays Cathars, a famous series of fortresses and chateaux throughout the region, open to intrepid visitors. The larger village of Trebes is just 5 mins away with local cafés, restaurants and shops. It is also a main port of call for the famous Canal du Midi which is now a tourist attraction for walking, cycling, and boat trips. The Cite de Carcassone with its old fairytale medieval centre is one of the main attractions in the whole of France and a must-see for any visitor to the region. The newer town with its criss-cross shopping streets and central square is itself worth a visit, and for the serious shopper there are the large stores and hypermarkets on the outskirts. Narbonne and Beziers beaches are 45 minutes to the east, and beaches continue southwards along the famous Côte Vermillion towards the Spanish border via Perpignan and Collioure. Slightly further afield one can drive to the Pyrenees for a quick change of scene and walking (plus skiing in the winter). Or how about a visit to the independent (and tax-free) country of Andorra (50 mins), and northern Spain perhaps as far as Barcelona (2–3 hours)? For children there are numerous wildlife centres – from eagles on your doorstep to deers and llamas in the mountains. The nearby village of Esperaza has a dedicated dinosaur museum and there is even a motocross centre for children 6–15.
